Every other winter, AIO offers a special 9-day Tropical Program in tropical marine ecology for alumni of our advanced sessions. In the past, we have run programs in Jamaica, Bermuda and, most recently, Belize. For the Belize session, we share the facilities of the Tropical Research and Education Center near San Pedro on Ambergis Caye. In addition to conducting research, we snorkel daily through the offshore reefs.

** The next Tropical Program will be held in November 2013 in Belize. Interested Advanced session students should attend an orientation meeting during their session this summer. **

The Tropical Program is offered either during the week of Thanksgiving or the week following Christmas. Students who have participated in the AIO Advanced Program and whose work is exemplary may apply for the Tropical Program. An informational meeting will be held during the summer sessions and students may apply as soon as the session ends.
