AIO Alum Jessica McGreehan "finally" hiked Mount Katahdin. Summer 2008

I am a 'super' senior at Bowdoin College which means I just need to finish my thesis for my geology degree (of course my love for geology was inspired by Tim and Kathy). I'm going to finish in New Zealand. My thesis is on glaciation and global climate change. I'll graduate in the spring of 2009.

I am currently living at home in Portland, on a leave of absense from Bowdoin. I am keeping busy working for SailMaine (a non profit equal opportunity sailing program for adults and Kids). I am the Program coordinator for the adult sailing program, high school coach and maintenance worker. I joined a frisbee league and am learning to play frisbee with POrtSports. I am also volunteering at Wolfs Neck Farm this fall, helping with the pumpkin patch and farm trips for young children. Most importantly I am working on getting my captains license with the US coast guard. When I finish my class in November I will have my 100 ton Near Coastal Captains License! Before I leave for New Zealand I will be working for Sea Education Association (Woods Hole) working on a 134 ft Sailing School Vessel. The trip is from Puerto Vallerta to Tahiti. I will stay a few weeks in Tahiti (because it is a world class surf break and Tahiti happens to be every surfers dream destination!). I will leave from Tahiti to finish school at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, NZ where I will be studying glaciation and global climate change. The University of Canterbury has a fantastic Antarctic Studies Program which I am seriously considering for Graduate School.

This summer I finally hiked Katahdin with my best friend....the picture is me at the top!
