Science Teacher Recommendation Form
Dear Science Teacher,
This student has applied to the Acadia Institute of Oceanography for admission to its marine studies summer program. This is a selective program for young people who have more than a casual interest in science and the ocean environment. Our summer program is field-oriented with trips to the Mount Desert Island shorelines, excursions on board boats, lab work, and classroom lectures and seminars. Though previous oceanography knowledge is not required or expected, it is important that each student has an aptitude for the sciences and enjoys being in an educational environment.
Considering the highly academic nature of our residential overnight program, students must be able to live and work cooperatively with peers and faculty. In order to ensure a positive experience for each participant, we look for academically motivated and socially well-adjusted students to spend two weeks with us on the coast of Maine. Please provide details about the student’s ability to work in groups, their overall level of interest in science, their classroom demeanor, ability to follow instructions, and any information pertaining to how they socialize outside of class at school or on field trips.
We require a recommendation from each candidate’s science teacher and, therefore, you have been asked to provide a few lines describing your student in reference to the above. We appreciate your taking the time from your busy schedule to complete and return this form in a timely manner.
If you would prefer to create your own recommendation to submit via email, please feel free. All recommendations created not using our form should be sent to: explore@acadiainstitute.com.
